Dedication by Ron Rawlings - President Staines Ex-serviceman's Club

Yes I knew Michael, who didn’t?

He was a true English gentleman respected and loved by everyone.

When war broke out he joined the Royal Navy and saw service in the Mediterranean where he was torpedoed in 1942.  He survived and came home where he was put in combined operations. He saw some of the worst fighting on D-day taking our lads ashore by landing craft. His luck held out and he came home and was demobbed in 1946.

In 1943 he married Joan and what a lovely couple they made.  He was very proud of his son and daughter and grandchildren.

He joined Staines Ex in the 40’s and could tell you more about the club than anyone I know. He became president in the late 70’s and served until he retired in 1999.

He loved his darts when he was younger and in later years took up bowling. He loved his bingo and mixing with the Burma Star and RAFA boys who meet on a Thursday and often visited the War Graves in France.

He loved riding his bike but one icy morning he slipped and things went wrong but even then his thoughts and concerns were still of his club mates.  I succeeded Mick as President but I could never replace him.

Yes I like many many others were proud to have known Mick and say “Yes I knew Micky Robinson”
